La Barceloneta

playa-barcelonetaThe Barceloneta beach, with the San Sebastian , is one of the largest and oldest beaches in Barcelona.

Is centrally located and easily accessible by public transports and for this reasons is one of  the favourite beach for locals and visitors.The beach has several volleyball courts, playgrounds, ping-pong, gym area and service “biblio-playa”.

La Playa de Somorrostro

Between the Hospital del Mar and Calle de la Marina, the beach Somorrostro occupies a stretch of coastline that previously belonged to the Barceloneta beach.

The beach was renamed in 2010 to honor the Somorrostro shantytown that after one hundred years of life, was knocked down for the visit of General Francisco Franco to Barcelona in 1966. Nowadays,

It is one of the most emblematic beaches in our city. It is one of the beaches preferred by foreigners, leisure groups and schools, who often go there for activities.

La Playa de Sant Sebastià

playa-sant-sebastia-sant-miquelLocated next to the beach of San Miguel, San Sebastian is one of the oldest and largest beaches in Barcelona where you can find some of the most important sport clubs in Barcelona.

The San Sebastian beach is frequented by older people and, like the Mar Bella has some nudist areas .The beach of San Sebastian has an area for disabled guests where volunteers help to use a water chair so they can enjoy the sea.

Sitges

sitgesThe gay Catalan capital has a beautiful historic centre with its church perched over the village overlooking the Mediterranean and the beach.

The easiest way to get to Sitges from Barcelona is by train from Sants station, in about 30 minutes.

Castelldefels

Castelldefels is located 20 km from Barcelona and it is known for its wonderful fine sand beach that is over 5 km long.

Castelldefels beach is provided with all kind of equipment and offers the chance to do watersports, take a dip in the calm Mediterranean Sea or just sunbathe.

Sant Pol de Mar

Sant_PolSant Pol de Mar is located 45km north of Barcelona. The sand is thick though rocky and the water is clean, it is one of the most beautiful places on the coast.

Depending on the area you can find large beaches with beach bars and showers, if you stray from the centre of town, you can find more natural coves frequented by fewer visitors.
